BOAO, Hainan: Chinese industry leaders at the Boao Forum for Asia said humanoid robots could become mainstream in two to 10 years, with some predicting a 'ChatGPT moment' of mass adoption.
Wang Xiaogang of Daxiao Robotics said breakthroughs could come in as little as two years, while Vivo's Shao Hao estimated closer to a decade. Both highlighted challenges in training data, reliability, and real-world operation.
Panellists emphasized gradual progress rather than a single breakthrough. They also discussed the need for public trust, with former New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley stressing that robots must be reliable, adaptable, and respectful of human boundaries.
Singapore’s AI governance initiatives were highlighted as a model for balancing innovation with safety and accountability.
