Calgary-born Jenni Gibbons, a backup astronaut for Jeremy Hansen, is set to play a crucial role in NASA's Artemis II mission, aiming to send humans around the moon. The mission is scheduled to launch in April. While Gibbons won't fly herself, she will act as a voice link to the crew in space, assisting with mission objectives and ensuring the spacecraft is ready for launch.

Hansen, alongside three NASA astronauts, will carry out the 10-day lunar flyaround, marking the first time in over 50 years that humans will venture beyond low Earth orbit. Should there be any issues leading to Hansen's inability to fly, Gibbons, with extensive training, stands ready to replace him. This mission highlights Canada's significant contribution to space exploration and its advancements in tech fields like robotics. Additionally, it underscores the importance of international collaboration in achieving ambitious goals.
