Bluesky has confirmed that intermittent outages experienced on Thursday evening were caused by a sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack. The platform reported that the attack began late Wednesday night Pacific Time and intensified throughout Thursday, leading to widespread service interruptions.

A DDoS attack works by overwhelming a service's network with a massive amount of internet traffic, causing it to slow down or shut down. Bluesky stated that it has found no evidence of unauthorized access to user data or compromises to private information as a result of the attack.

The platform is expected to release another update regarding the incident. As of now, Bluesky appears to be fully operational, with its service status page reporting no current issues. Users are advised that no immediate action is required on their part.
