India's Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has launched the Blockchain India Challenge to drive innovation in public sector services. The initiative encourages startups to develop scalable blockchain applications aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and verifiability across various government sectors.
The challenge focuses on creating permissioned blockchain systems prioritizing regulatory control, security, and trust. Key sectors targeted include public distribution, e-procurement, supply chain management, education, healthcare, agriculture, and land records.
Startups are encouraged to propose solutions in other areas through collaboration with relevant government departments. The program aims to foster the development of practical, ready-to-use blockchain solutions, with the goal of creating ten significant applications across distinct governance categories. Eligible companies collaborating with government agencies may receive stage-wise financing support.
This initiative aligns with broader discussions in India regarding blockchain technology's potential in governance and regulation.
