Meta has reversed its decision to end virtual reality support for Horizon Worlds, the social media platform central to its metaverse vision.

On March 17, the company announced that Horizon Worlds would no longer be supported on Quest headsets starting June 15. However, the move was quickly undone after users expressed disappointment.

In an Instagram Q&A, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth said the company will keep Horizon Worlds available in VR "for the foreseeable future," though with limited support.

Horizon Worlds was a key part of Meta's strategy under CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision for immersive digital life. Despite billions in investment, the platform never gained mainstream traction.

The company has shifted focus to the mobile version of Horizon Worlds, which saw a 53% increase in downloads this year. The mobile app has reached 45 million downloads globally.

Bosworth emphasized that building for phones offers more momentum than maintaining separate mobile and VR versions.
