A hacking group known as ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for stealing approximately 80 million records from video game giant Rockstar Games. The group posted its claim on Saturday, with data verification platforms confirming the information. A representative for ShinyHunters stated in an online chat that the stolen data, numbering 78.6 million records, originates from Rockstar's account with Snowflake, a corporate data management company. The access was reportedly gained through a compromise of Anodot, an AI-powered business analytics platform.

Snowflake confirmed that the incident was not a breach of its own platform but a result of the compromise at Anodot. "We proactively disabled all user accounts referencing Anodot from connecting to Snowflake," a Snowflake spokesperson stated.

Tech news outlet Bleeping Computer reported the stolen data includes sensitive information such as in-game revenue, player behavior tracking, and game economy data for popular titles like Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online.

Reuters has not yet independently verified the authenticity of the data. ShinyHunters has not disclosed if any ransom was demanded or if any communication has occurred with Rockstar or its parent company, Take-Two Interactive Software. This incident follows a pattern of similar attacks targeting Snowflake customers, with over 160 companies reportedly affected by data theft and extortion attempts in 2024.
