OpenAI has briefed U.S. federal agencies and Five Eyes member countries on its new cybersecurity product. The AI company is positioning itself in the growing cybersecurity battleground, where advanced AI models can both pose risks and offer defense solutions.

Last week, OpenAI unveiled GPT-5.4-Cyber, a specialized version of its flagship model fine-tuned for defensive cybersecurity work. This follows similar moves by rivals like Anthropic. OpenAI held an event in Washington D.C. to demonstrate the new model's capabilities to cyber defense practitioners from the federal government.

The company is also initiating briefings with Five Eyes nations - the U.S., Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand - to gain access and vetting for the model. OpenAI plans a limited rollout for GPT-5.4-Cyber to vetted security vendors, organizations, and researchers due to its permissive design.
