Roblox is revolutionizing its in-game chat by implementing an AI-powered feature that rewrites profanity and slurs in real-time. Instead of censoring offensive language with hash marks, the system intelligently rephrases flagged messages to maintain readability and enforce community standards.

This new real-time chat rephrasing aims to keep conversations flowing naturally during gameplay, replacing disruptive language with appropriate alternatives. For instance, a message like "Hurry TF up!" will now appear as "Hurry up!" This approach seeks to guide language towards civility without resorting to complete message blocking. The company emphasizes that while messages are rephrased, violations of profanity policies still carry consequences.

The feature is available for age-verified users within similar age groups and supports all languages offered by Roblox's translation tools. It was developed in collaboration with members of Roblox's Teen Council to better understand how young players communicate. Additionally, Roblox is enhancing its text filtering system to detect more sophisticated attempts to evade moderation, including the use of leetspeak.

This move aligns with a broader trend in the gaming industry, where companies like Activision are increasingly adopting AI for player behavior moderation to reduce toxicity and improve player experiences.
