TSMC's chairman and CEO C.C. Wei delivered a stark message to the global semiconductor industry: Taiwan’s dominance in advanced AI chip manufacturing is not weakening, and competitors must reset their expectations. Speaking after the company’s annual shareholder meeting in Hsinchu, Wei declared that Taiwan holds a competitive edge in AI that other nations will find extremely difficult to match.

Wei highlighted TSMC's staggering financial commitment-$165 billion to build advanced capacity in the US, on top of a previous $65 billion pledge. He cautioned that fully satisfying US demand through local production will take a "very long time," citing permit and labor challenges that hinder the goal of producing 30% of 2nm and below capacity in America.

On the demand-supply front, Wei acknowledged TSMC cannot fully meet the soaring AI demand and is working to prevent supply chain bottlenecks. He also hinted at possible price increases but ruled out any sudden or dramatic hikes.
