Dutch regulators have approved Tesla's driver assistance software, Full Self-Driving Supervised, allowing its use on highways and city streets under human supervision. This marks the first regulatory approval for the technology in Europe, with the Netherlands' RDW stating its proper use contributes positively to road safety after 18 months of testing.

The approval could facilitate acceptance by other European authorities. Wider adoption of FSD is a key component of Tesla's growth strategy, with the company betting on AI-driven self-driving software and robotaxis as future revenue streams. Tesla plans to roll out the technology in the Netherlands shortly and aims for broader European expansion.

While the software is available in the U.S., it faces ongoing investigations and lawsuits there. The RDW clarified that the European version of FSD Supervised is not comparable to the U.S. version due to differing safety requirements. The RDW will now submit the application for authentication across the entire European Union to the European Commission for a member state vote.
