Visa is accelerating its entry into the AI payments sector with the launch of Intelligent Commerce Connect. This new platform aims to facilitate AI-driven commerce for businesses, allowing AI agents to act on behalf of consumers for browsing, selecting, and purchasing goods.

The system provides a unified integration point for secure payment initiation, tokenization, spend controls, and authentication. It supports both Visa and non-Visa card payments and is compatible with major AI agent protocols. Merchants' catalogs will become discoverable within AI platforms.

Intelligent Commerce Connect is currently in a pilot phase, with a wider rollout expected later in 2026. This follows Visa's earlier experimental product, "Visa CLI," announced in March, which enabled AI agents to make same-day payments.

In a related development, AI fintech firm Nevermined has integrated with Visa's new platform using the x402 protocol. This integration allows AI agents to autonomously purchase digital goods and services, with users setting spending rules and AI agents operating within those parameters.
