AcuRite, a company best known for its weather stations and indoor sensors, is giving its customers a storm warning-but not about the weather. On May 30, 2026, the company will shut down its longtime My AcuRite app, forcing all device owners to switch to the newer AcuRite Now app.
The company began alerting users last month that the My AcuRite app, which launched in 2016, would be retired. AcuRite Now launched in June 2025 alongside a new weather station, the Optimus, but the older app remained available-until now.
AcuRite Now integrates with Tuya’s SmartLife IoT ecosystem, meaning it can control thousands of third-party devices like fans, thermostats, and light bulbs. But many long-time users are not happy. Complaints online describe the new app as clunky, lacking the ability to rename multiple temperature sensors, offering only whole-number temperature readings, and having limited integration with weather data services.
One of the biggest sticking points: sharing data with Weather Underground now requires a subscription called AcuRite Now+, starting at $2 per month. That subscription also unlocks 365 days of data history instead of the free 30-day limit.
AcuRite says it is “hoping” to add sensor organization, multi-rename support, and a desktop version soon. But for customers who remember the simpler days of My AcuRite, that promise feels like a drop in the bucket.
