A former student opened fire at a vocational high school in Siverek, Turkey, wounding at least 16 people before killing himself. The 18-year-old attacker, armed with a shotgun, fired randomly inside the school.
The injured include 10 students, four teachers, a canteen employee, and a police officer. Most are receiving treatment in Siverek, with five in more serious condition transferred to the provincial capital. The motive for the attack remains unclear. School shootings are rare in Turkey, and the attacker reportedly had no criminal record.
Media reports suggest the assailant had threatened the school on social media prior to the incident. A student recounted jumping out of a classroom window to escape the attacker, who entered and began shooting without speaking.
Police cornered the gunman inside the building, leading to his self-inflicted death. A comprehensive investigation into the shooting is underway.
