Sydney authorities have added 19 new criminal charges against Naveed Akram, the 24-year-old accused of orchestrating the deadly attack at Sydney's Bondi Beach in December. The suspect now faces a total of 78 counts, including the original 15 murders, 40 attempted murders, and one count of committing a terrorist act.

The newly filed charges, confirmed by prosecutors this week, include 10 counts of shooting with intent to murder, six counts of discharging a firearm to resist arrest, and three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to kill. These additions stem from evidence gathered in April but only recently made public.

Akram remains in custody after being critically injured during the assault on December 14, 2025. His father, Sajid Akram, was killed by police at the scene. Court documents reveal the pair meticulously planned the attack, conducting firearms training and reconnaissance prior to the event. Investigators are currently reviewing 230,000 CCTV images and translating digital evidence from devices linked to co-conspirators.

Defense lawyer Leonie Gittani described the proceedings as unprecedented but noted the additional charges were anticipated. Akram has yet to enter a plea and is scheduled to return to court in August for further hearings.
