The man hailed as a hero for disarming one of the alleged attackers in the deadly Bondi Beach shooting has been charged with domestic assault.
Ahmed al Ahmed, 44, is accused of assaulting his father in March, as well as stalking and intimidation, according to Australian media. He has denied the allegations, calling them "not true at all."
Al Ahmed gained international recognition after wrestling a gun from an alleged perpetrator during a December attack at a Jewish Hanukkah event in Sydney. Fifteen people were killed and dozens wounded in what police declared a terrorist incident targeting the Jewish community.
He was shot multiple times during the intervention and later visited by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who called him "the best of our country." A public fundraiser raised more than A$2.5 million for his recovery.
Al Ahmed is scheduled to appear in Sydney's Bankstown Local Court on June 29.
