At least 22 people were killed and more than 100 wounded in a major Russian attack on Ukrainian cities early Tuesday, according to authorities in Kyiv.

Hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles struck the capital Kyiv and the southeastern city of Dnipro. This is the third heavy assault on Kyiv in less than a month.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported 73 missiles and over 600 drones were fired overnight. He renewed his call to Washington to send additional Patriot missile interceptors, saying the attack is a clear signal from Moscow: if Ukraine is not protected, the strikes will continue.

Ukraine's Air Force confirmed the attack included 33 ballistic missiles and eight Zircon hypersonic missiles-the largest single use of these weapons in the war. Air defenses shot down 40 missiles and 602 drones, but no Zircon was intercepted.

In Kyiv, six people died and more than 80 were wounded. At least nine high-rise buildings, a kindergarten, a clinic, and administrative buildings were damaged. Power was temporarily cut to 140,000 residents, and over 40,000 took shelter in the subway system.

In Dnipro, 16 people were killed overnight, including two young boys. Russia struck the city again later Tuesday.

Zelenskyy sent a letter last week to President Donald Trump and Congress requesting air defense systems. As of Monday, no response had been received. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged partners for tougher sanctions and more military support.
