Authorities in northern Queensland, Australia, are investigating the origins of six large, solid metallic spheres that washed up on Forrest Beach this weekend.
The Australian Space Agency is leading the probe to determine the source of the objects, which are suspected to be space debris. Crews in protective suits secured the spheres in hazmat barrels under police guard.
Officials established a 50-meter exclusion zone and warned the public not to touch any suspicious items. Online speculation suggests they could be propellant tanks from spacecraft, possibly containing flammable residue.
The specific vehicle or owner of the debris remains unknown.
