An Australian warship has sailed through the Taiwan Strait, a government source confirmed. The Royal Australian Navy vessel, the Toowoomba, conducted a routine transit as part of a regional deployment.

China, which claims sovereignty over democratically governed Taiwan, views the strait as its territorial waters and has reacted aggressively to foreign naval activity. Chinese state-backed media reported that the People's Liberation Army carried out full-process tracking and monitoring of the Australian warship's transit. This transit follows similar maneuvers by US warships and occasional transits by other US allies.
