China’s Fujian aircraft carrier made a significant passage through the Taiwan Strait, confirmed by Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense on June 23, 2026. This marks its first crossing since April 2026.

The Fujian is China’s third and most advanced aircraft carrier, equipped with electromagnetic catapults for launching heavier aircraft. Taiwan noted that during its December 2025 transit, the Fujian displayed no aircraft operations or military intent, emphasizing the heightened military presence in these contested waters.

Taiwan previously observed the Fujian on December 16, 2025, after its service entry, and again in September 2025 during sea trials. The older Liaoning aircraft carrier traversed the Taiwan Strait in April 2026, indicating ongoing Chinese military operations.

In response to these developments, Taiwanese lawmakers are considering strategic Bitcoin reserves, indicating a potential shift towards digital currencies in the face of geopolitical tensions.
