Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has summoned Israel's ambassador to Canada over what she calls the 'deplorable' treatment of civilians aboard a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza.

Anand confirmed that Canadian nationals who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla are safe and currently being transferred to Turkey after their detention by Israeli forces.

Activists report that 12 Canadians were among the hundreds detained when Israel intercepted the flotilla, which consisted of 41 boats attempting to break Israel's blockade and deliver aid to Gaza.

Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned Israel's actions as 'abominable' and 'unacceptable,' citing video showing bound activists being taunted by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The incident has sparked international backlash, with multiple foreign ministers summoning Israeli ambassadors. Israel's embassy in Canada declined to comment.
