Palestinians are mourning the death of Mohammed al-Wahidi, a senior official with the Egyptian Relief Committee. The 65-year-old aid worker was killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza City on Tuesday.
The Israeli military stated it struck a Hamas operative and was aware of claims regarding uninvolved casualties.
Al-Wahidi was a familiar figure in displacement camps, known for coordinating emergency food assistance and aid distributions. He recently gained wider recognition for organizing public screenings of World Cup matches in Gaza to offer families a brief respite.
He was killed hours before a screening of Egypt's match against Argentina.
His death highlights the severe risks faced by humanitarian workers in Gaza. The UN has recorded the deaths of at least 593 aid workers since the war began.
