Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is urging Canadian citizens in parts of the Middle East to consider leaving the region while commercial travel options remain available. Anand stated that Ottawa's ability to provide assistance during an active conflict would be significantly limited.
The security situation in Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon is described as volatile and unpredictable. Canadians in these areas are advised to depart if possible. Those in Iran are urged to leave immediately due to the absence of a Canadian embassy and extremely limited consular services.
Minister Anand emphasized that Canada's capacity for evacuations or assisted departures during a conflict would likely be constrained. Citizens are advised to prepare contingency plans that do not depend on government evacuation assistance. Canadians are encouraged to monitor official travel advisories and register with the Registration of Canadians Abroad service.
