Denmark's former Queen Margrethe is in the hospital tonight.
The Royal House says the 86-year-old was admitted to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen this afternoon with chest pain, diagnosed as angina.
She's expected to remain under observation through the weekend. Officials describe her as tired but in good spirits.
Margrethe stepped down in 2024 after a 52-year reign, passing the throne to her son, King Frederik. A popular figure, she modernized the monarchy despite recent health struggles, including major back surgery in 2023.
Beyond royalty, she's known as an artist, a costume designer, and a translator.
