Eight children, ranging in age from one to 14, were killed in a devastating shooting incident in Shreveport, Louisiana, early Sunday. Authorities are treating the incident as domestic violence.
The gunman, who has not been identified, was fatally shot by police after carjacking a vehicle and leading officers on a chase.
Police described an extensive crime scene spanning multiple residences. Two other individuals were injured in the gunfire. Officials believe the suspect acted alone.
"This is a rather extensive crime scene spanning between two residences," police Corporal Chris Bordelon stated. "Some of the children inside were his descendants."
"It's a terrible morning in Shreveport and we all mourn with the victims," said Mayor Tom Arceneaux. U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, whose district includes Shreveport, called the event a "heartbreaking tragedy."
