The UN Security Council held an open debate on Thursday on protecting children in armed conflict, as new data revealed a shocking shift: for the first time in three decades, government forces committed more grave violations against children than non-state armed groups.
In 2025, the UN verified 38,558 such violations-including killing, recruitment and abduction-affecting 24,174 children.
