Europe is at a crossroads. With war in Ukraine, instability in the Middle East, and a shifting global order, EU leaders are grappling with a fundamental question: should they dramatically increase military spending?

Two MEPs, Lukas Mandl (Austria, European People's Party) and Marc Botenga (Belgium, The Left), clashed on this issue in this episode of The Ring.

Mandl advocates for arming Europe with the latest drone technology to counter Russia and other threats. He supports Germany's massive new defense fund.

Botenga counters, accusing EU governments of neglecting domestic priorities like schools and hospitals. He argues that pouring billions into weapons is not the answer.

The debate also touched on the transatlantic alliance, especially in light of Donald Trump's return to the White House. Many European leaders are pushing for greater strategic autonomy.

The episode is hosted by Stefan Grobe.
