NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday for an unannounced visit, a gesture of solidarity as Ukraine endures a wave of deadly Russian attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to meet with Rutte, who was seen arriving at the Kyiv railway station. The visit follows a series of large-scale Russian missile strikes on the capital and the eastern city of Dnipro that killed 23 people.

In recent days, Zelenskyy has repeatedly appealed to NATO members for help defending Ukraine against Russian ballistic missiles. Rutte's trip comes just hours after Ukrainian drones struck energy and military targets in Saint Petersburg, where officials were gathering for a flagship economic forum.
