U.S. authorities have detained a suspected Guatemalan drug kingpin, Eugenio Molina-Lopez, wanted in connection with a $10 million bounty. Molina-Lopez is accused of leading the criminal organization Los Huistas, which allegedly trafficked cocaine from South America to Mexican cartels for distribution in the U.S.
The 61-year-old, known as "Don Dario," was arrested in San Diego and pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to import and distribute cocaine. U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon stated this marks a significant step in dismantling international drug trafficking operations.
Los Huistas operates near Guatemala's border with Mexico and has been previously sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury. The group is involved in smuggling cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin, utilizing major cartels like the Sinaloa Cartel and Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
