Floods and landslides triggered by monsoon rain have killed at least 44 people in southeastern Bangladesh. The disaster has left more than one million people stranded across seven districts.

Power outages, damaged roads, and broken communications have hampered rescue operations. Many residents have no electricity or means to cook food, forcing reliance on dry rations.

The army and navy are delivering food, water, and medicine by boat to isolated communities. Officials are urging those in inundated homes to move to shelters.

Heavy rain also caused deadly landslides in Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, killing 16 people. Over one million refugees live in makeshift shelters on vulnerable hillsides.

Bangladesh is highly prone to monsoon disasters. Scientists warn climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of such extreme weather events.
