Romania attributes a drone crash in the eastern city of Galați to Russia, calling it a direct threat to civilian safety. Foreign Minister Oana Toiu stated the drone was Russian and carried explosives, igniting a fire on a residential apartment roof.

In response, President Nicușor Dan declared the Russian consul in Constanta persona non grata and ordered the closure of the Russian consulate. The move sends a clear message that endangering Romanian citizens is unacceptable.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the incident as Russia crossing "yet another line" and announced preparations for a 21st sanctions package. NATO also denounced Russia's "recklessness," vowing to strengthen defenses against drone threats.

Romania is pushing for accelerated EU sanctions, with Minister Toiu coordinating closely with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas to maintain pressure on Moscow.
