For Andrea Egotik, 2026 began with tragedy. In January, RCMP notified her that her daughter, 23-year-old Ayla Egotik-Learn, had been killed. Her body was discovered in a St. Albert apartment in late January, though authorities believe she died in early December.
Despite searching the unit, officers could not locate Ayla’s nine-month-old daughter, Braylee. Investigators attribute the delay in reporting to text messages sent by someone impersonating the victim after her death. Thirty-three-year-old Christopher Beasley has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a body. Court records indicate prior domestic abuse between the pair. Beasley previously pleaded guilty to assaulting Ayla in 2025.
RCMP have declined further comment. Egotik continues to hope for her granddaughter’s safe return, describing dreams where her daughter gestures toward the missing child. A fundraising effort has launched to assist with funeral expenses and travel from Nunavut. Justice remains the family’s priority.
