A Hamas delegation will meet Egyptian mediators in Cairo on Sunday to address alleged Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire. The Palestinian group aims to secure a halt to Israeli actions and demand the full reopening of border crossings, increased humanitarian aid, and the entry of a US-established administrative body.
Despite a US-backed truce, both sides have accused each other of breaches. Hamas seeks to implement the agreement's provisions, including increased traveler flow and aid. A second Hamas official indicated discussions would also involve other Palestinian factions.
The ceasefire, which began in October, followed a devastating two-year war. Hamas is expected to press for the cessation of Israeli military positions in Gaza. Meanwhile, recent Israeli airstrikes in northern Gaza reportedly killed seven people, which the Israeli military stated was a response to an "armed terrorist cell" approaching the de facto boundary.
According to Gaza's health ministry, at least 749 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began. The Israeli army reported five soldiers killed. Media access in Gaza remains restricted.
