A rare Hermès Birkin bag, uniquely bearing two signatures from the late Jane Birkin, is poised to lead a significant luxury accessories auction by Heritage Auctions. Estimates project the bag could sell for between €185,000 to €275,000.
The Bleu Marine Courchevel leather handbag is a prime lot in the auction house's Spring Luxury Accessories sale, featuring a curated selection of high-end fashion items.
This particular Birkin's distinction lies not only in its condition and history but in its dual inscription from the actor and singer. Birkin signed the interior twice, including a personal message to the original owner, Midori Senga, reading “Midori Your Friend Jane,” alongside a second signature.
Jane Birkin, who died in 2023, famously inspired the iconic bag's design in 1984 following an impromptu meeting with Hermès executive Jean-Louis Dumas. The Birkin has since become a globally recognized and highly valuable handbag, with resale prices frequently surpassing original retail.
The auction highlights the substantial growth in the luxury resale market. Alongside the Birkin, the sale will feature designer handbags from Hermès, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton, with several pieces anticipated to command tens of thousands of euros.
Heritage Auctions, founded in Dallas, is one of the world's largest auction houses, known for its fine art and collectibles. It has increasingly focused on luxury accessories, marketing designer handbags as investment-grade assets.
The bag will be auctioned at Heritage Auctions' Spring Luxury Accessories sale in Dallas, with international buyers able to participate in live and online bidding. The auction is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026.
