An Israeli airstrike outside Beirut killed two people and wounded five on March 24, 2026, after repeated overnight attacks on the Lebanese capital’s southern suburbs. The strikes mark the continuation of intense military operations in the region during the fourth week of escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
AFP correspondents documented severe damage to an apartment building in Bshamoun, a town in the Aley region southeast of Beirut. Abbas Qassem, a 55-year-old state telecom worker whose adjacent unit was destroyed, described total loss: "There's nothing left. It's all burned or destroyed."
Lebanon's health ministry confirmed the death toll while the National News Agency reported additional strikes across southern Lebanon, including gas stations linked to Al-Amana fuel company, which Israel alleges finances Hezbollah.
Israeli forces also conducted a ground incursion into the border town of Halta, resulting in one civilian dead, another wounded, and a third abducted before withdrawal. Simultaneously, Hezbollah claimed attacks on Israeli troops in Qawzah, southern Lebanon, and targets in northern Israel.
The Israeli military destroyed a strategic bridge connecting southern Lebanon to the Bekaa Valley, following prior airstrikes on the same infrastructure. Shelling was also reported in the Hermel region near Syria.
