Israel has killed the new head of Hamas’ military wing in an airstrike in northern Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces announced Wednesday that Mohammed Odeh was eliminated in the operation. Odeh was responsible for planning and coordinating the infiltration and attack targets during the October 7, 2023 massacre.
Odeh took over the role following the elimination of Izz al-Din al-Haddad earlier this month.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement, saying they will continue to pursue anyone involved in the October 7 attack.
Haddad had assumed control of Hamas after his predecessors, Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Sinwar, were also killed. The IDF said Haddad worked to rebuild Hamas’ military capabilities in violation of the ceasefire.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Haddad was deeply involved in holding Israeli hostages, and his name came up repeatedly in conversations with returned captives.
