India has postponed its trade delegation's visit to Washington this week due to uncertainty following the US Supreme Court's rejection of tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. The delegation, originally scheduled to depart Sunday, was set to finalize an interim trade deal.
This decision marks one of the first reactions from Asian nations to the US Supreme Court's ruling. The visit was intended to address framework agreements for Washington to reduce punitive tariffs on certain Indian exports, particularly those linked to New Delhi's Russian oil purchases. The proposed deal included reducing US tariffs on Indian goods to 18 percent and India's commitment to purchase US items worth $500 billion over five years.
Officials cited the uncertainty surrounding tariffs as the primary reason for deferring the visit. No new date has been set for the delegation's travel.
