Iranian hardline lawmaker Mahmoud Nabavian is demanding a firm response following U.S. military strikes on targets in southern Iran. The Pentagon confirmed the June 26, 2026, action was a direct response to Iranian drone attacks on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. officials labeled the Iranian drone strikes on commercial shipping a "foolish violation" of an existing ceasefire. Tehran fired back, insisting the American strikes were the true violation.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint, handling roughly a fifth of global oil transit.
Nabavian, a vocal critic of diplomacy with Washington, has previously condemned a potential U.S.-Iran agreement. Earlier in June, he called the latest draft "more damaging" than the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal, framing it as a "pure loss" for Iran.
Tensions between the two nations have been escalating, with mutual accusations of ceasefire violations piling up throughout 2025 and 2026.
