Jean-Yves Vlahovic has firmly denied claims that Israel was responsible for the death of his daughter, French journalist Marine Vlahovic, who was found dead on the roof of her Marseille apartment in November 2024.
Marseille’s judicial police and public prosecutor concluded, based on CCTV and autopsy evidence, that no third party was involved. Toxicology results were pending, but the post-mortem found no traumatic injuries suggesting violence.
Contrary to viral social media narratives, Marine was not in Gaza at the time of her death. She traveled to Cairo in late 2023 to document the experiences of Palestinians displaced by Israeli bombardments-never gaining access to Gaza due to the media blackout.
Her father revealed she was deeply disillusioned by French media’s dismissal of Palestinian journalists as credible sources. In June 2024, she chose not to renew her press card, declaring in her final podcast episode: "I am disheartened by the media coverage."
The family emphasized that the false claims-some amassing millions of views-exploited her legacy to fuel antisemitic conspiracy theories, distracting from her journalistic integrity and the real crisis she sought to expose.
