A father fatally shot eight children in an attack Sunday morning in Shreveport, Louisiana. Seven of the victims were his own. The gunman, identified as Shamar Elkins, died after a police pursuit. Authorities described the incident as entirely domestic. Two women, including the gunman's wife, were critically wounded.
The children's ages ranged from three to 11. They were found inside a single home. Another child who attempted to escape was expected to survive.
Police confirmed they had prior contact with Elkins regarding a 2019 firearms case but were unaware of other domestic issues. The violence began at one residence before moving to the second where the children were killed.
