Federal prosecutors have charged a Louisiana man with illegally possessing a firearm and lying to federal agents. The weapon was used in a massacre that killed eight children in Shreveport.
Authorities state Shamar Elkins used the firearm to kill seven of his children and a nephew, aged three to 11. Elkins also shot his wife and another woman before being fatally shot by police.
Charles Ford, 56, faces charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm and making false statements to federal agents. The AR-style weapon was the same one Elkins used in the attack.

Investigators traced the gun to its original purchaser, who had given it to Ford. Ford, a convicted felon prohibited from owning firearms, initially denied possession but later admitted to having the rifle, believing Elkins had taken it. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
