Lebanon’s Justice Minister Adel Nassar has urged the international community to condemn Israel’s military expansion along their shared border. Speaking to Europe Today, Nassar warned that further Israeli incursions could lead to a humanitarian crisis, displacing over one million people and exacerbating Lebanon’s fragile economy.
Nassar highlighted the dual challenges facing Lebanon: Israeli attacks from the north and Hezbollah’s military activities within the country. He emphasized that both pose significant risks to national security and stability. The minister also called on Israel to respond to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s call for negotiations, stressing the need for diplomatic solutions to avoid a catastrophic impact on civilians.
Meanwhile, tensions have escalated following Israel’s order to expand its military operations near the northern border, with several Israeli ministers suggesting extending a buffer zone to the Litani River. This move is viewed by Lebanon as an occupation of its territory, prompting warnings of additional land seizures.
Nassar reiterated his government’s stance against using Lebanese territory as a launchpad for Iran or its proxies, specifically criticizing Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. He stressed the urgency of making irrevocable decisions to protect Lebanon’s sovereignty and prevent further destabilization.
