A massive Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region killed three people and injured 12, according to Russian officials. A woman died in a house in Khimki, north of the capital, while two others were killed in the village of Pogorelki. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported 12 injuries from impacts on an oil refinery. Russia's military said it intercepted 556 drones over the region.

Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobiev described the attack as a "large-scale UAV assault" that began about 3 a.m. local time. Multiple homes were damaged or destroyed in several towns. Sheremetyevo Airport, Russia's busiest, reported drone debris on its property but no injuries, and operations continued normally.

In Ukraine, eight people were injured in Russian drone and shelling attacks across the Dnipropetrovsk region, where more than 30 strikes damaged houses and sparked fires. Ukraine's air force reported Russia launched 287 drones since late Saturday, downing 279, with eight direct hits across seven locations.

President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed retaliation for the deadly Russian strikes on Kyiv and other regions, claiming Ukraine destroyed high-value Russian equipment including aircraft, a helicopter, and a cargo ship this week. He said operations continue to target Russian oil facilities and ships.

The attack underscores Ukraine's intensified campaign against strategic Russian energy infrastructure, which Kyiv calls legitimate military targets supporting Russia's war effort. Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022 and currently controls about 20% of Ukraine.
