A rubber boat carrying migrants capsized off the Turkish resort of Bodrum after a high-speed chase, killing 19 people, officials reported.
The vessel, detected in early morning hours Wednesday, ignored repeated warnings to stop from Turkish coastguard authorities.

The boat attempted to flee at speed but overturned in rough seas. A coastguard helicopter from Izmir responded with three boats, rescuing 20 migrants from the Aegean.
Authorities have not disclosed the departure location, destination, or nationalities of those aboard. Search and rescue operations continue.
The Greek island of Kos lies 13 miles from Bodrum, serving as an EU entry point for people fleeing Middle East, African and Asian conflicts. The Aegean crossing remains treacherous, with many vessels unseaworthy or departing in dangerous weather.
