A major winter storm is hitting a large portion of northern Ontario and eastern Quebec. Weather warnings are in effect from east of Thunder Bay to Sept-Iles.

Environment Canada forecasts up to 60 centimetres of snow in areas including Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins. Freezing rain and ice pellets could reduce visibility to near zero.
Winds may reach 80 kilometres per hour. The storm is expected to persist through the day, with impacts extending into Tuesday in some regions.
In Sudbury, authorities have declared a significant weather event. Police urge all residents to stay home and off roadways. Municipal crews are mobilized for emergency response.
