The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed Wednesday that Mohammed Odeh, the newly appointed head of Hamas’ military wing, was killed in a targeted strike in northern Gaza.
The operation in Gaza City followed months of intelligence surveillance. Odeh previously led Hamas’ intelligence division and assumed command after his predecessor Izz al-Din al-Haddad was killed earlier this month.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office called Odeh one of the “architects” of the October 7 attacks, accusing him of responsibility for the murder, abduction, and wounding of many Israeli citizens and soldiers.
The IDF also struck terrorist infrastructure and a hideout used by a Hamas operative who infiltrated Israel on October 7.
This development comes as Israel intensifies military operations in Lebanon against the Iran-backed Hezbollah.
