Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty on two counts of rape.

The verdict was delivered by a panel of three judges at the Oslo District Court. While Høiby was convicted on the two primary charges and several other offenses, the court cleared him of two additional rape counts.

Høiby was not physically present in the courtroom, opting to attend the proceedings remotely via video link.

Prosecutors had argued for a significantly harsher sentence of seven years and seven months. His defense team, which requested an 18-month term, retains the right to appeal the decision.
