NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has assured Romania of the alliance's full solidarity after a Russian drone crashed into a residential building in Galati, Romania, sparking a fire and injuring two civilians.

Rutte stated on X that he spoke with Romanian President Nicușor Dan, affirming, "NATO stands ready to defend every inch of Allied territory." He stressed the need to enhance readiness against all threats, including drones, blaming Russia's "reckless behavior" as "a danger to us all."

President Dan called the incident the most serious on Romanian soil since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. He announced a NATO Supreme Council meeting and promised "proportionate measures" against Russia.

This event follows a series of suspected drone incursions across the Baltic and Finland. US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker also condemned the attack, vowing to defend every inch of NATO territory.
