The owner of two Cane Corso dogs that killed an 11-year-old boy in Edmonton testified she was arranging training before the fatal mauling.
Crystal MacDonald faces a criminal negligence causing death charge after Kache Grist was killed in her home in April 2024.
Court heard the unneutered dogs, weighing up to 125 pounds, had a history of aggression. In February 2024, Tina Kelepouris was severely mauled at MacDonald's home-suffering broken ribs, a punctured lung, and dozens of stitches.
MacDonald said she told friends not to play with the dogs, citing previous incidents where the dogs killed a Pomeranian, a cat, and injured someone else. After the February attack, she contacted trainers and scheduled neutering for the more aggressive dog.
The Crown argues MacDonald knew the dogs were dangerous before Kache's death.
Trial continues.
