Global players' union FIFPRO has raised serious concerns for the welfare of the Iranian women's soccer team as they prepare to return home. The team was reportedly labeled "wartime traitors" after refusing to sing their national anthem before an Asian Cup match.

The team's campaign concluded after a loss to the Philippines. Fans expressed concern for the players' safety following their anthem silence, with a petition urging the Australian government to ensure their protection. FIFPRO president Beau Busch stated the union has been unable to contact the players, intensifying worries about their situation, particularly since mid-January.

FIFPRO is collaborating with FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation, and the Australian government to apply pressure for player safety and agency. The players' decision to stand in silence during their anthem was criticized by Iranian state media, with one commentator deeming it the "pinnacle of dishonor."

When the team sang the anthem and saluted before their subsequent match, human rights campaigners feared coercion. Iran's coach expressed eagerness for the team's return. Australian officials stated that visa applications are assessed individually, without commenting on specific circumstances.
