Russia targeted eight regions of Ukraine in its latest nighttime drone and missile barrage, wounding more than two dozen civilians, including three children. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported at least 524 Iranian-made Shahed drones and nearly two dozen ballistic and cruise missiles were fired between Monday night and early Tuesday. The city of Dnipro and its surrounding region bore the brunt of the attack.
The barrage continues a recent spiral of long-range strikes following a May 9-11 ceasefire requested by US President Donald Trump, which had little impact. There is no sign of a peace deal despite US diplomatic efforts.
Ukraine has built up its own long-range capabilities over the war, hitting oil facilities and other targets deep inside Russia. Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced Monday that Ukraine has developed its first glide bomb, carrying a 250-kilogram warhead to strike heavy fortifications and command posts. Ukrainian pilots are training with the weapon under combat conditions.
